Karell Belle- Exercises in style- Week two Assignment
Narrative:
It was Brittany’s first thanksgiving in her new apartment, so she decided to cook for all of her family and friends that she had invited over. First Brittany made a list of what she wanted to make in order to know what she would buy from the supermarket. Then she got into her car and drove to the supermarket which was ten blocks away. As she approached her destination she realized that the parking lot was full, so she waited until a parking spot became available. So after she found a spot to park her car, then she got out the car and walked to the entrance of the supermarket. As Brittany entered the supermarket, she noticed that there was chaos inside because people were everywhere running around and cashier lines were extremely long. Brittany then went to the aisle were the turkey and ham were located, as she got there she realized there were no more turkeys left. She began to get nervous because what was Thanksgiving without the traditional turkey. She then grabbed cranberry sauce, potatoes, beans, broccoli, ground beef, desert cakes and cookies, cheese, pork, and apple cider. And Brittany then rushed to join the cashier line and when it was her turn in the line she paid for her groceries. She then ran out the supermarket to her car but as she approached the parking lot she could not remember where she had parked her car. She then walked through every lot until she found her car and she then got inside the car and drove off. Brittany then decided to drive a few blocks further to find a supermarket which would still have turkeys available. She went to three different supermarkets and got tired and she was about to give looking for it. But then as she was driving back home she passed a new supermarket which had opened a week ago and outside the supermarket she saw a signed that said turkeys available for purchase. She then found a parking spot and ran into the market and bought her turkey and left to go home. As soon as she got home she began to prepare the turkey and ham so they could start cooking in the oven. Then Brittany began grating cheese and mixing her sauces to put on her macaroni which she had planned to bake also. Soon after she started to make her mother’s homemade stuffing while the ham, turkey and macaroni baked in the oven. Brittany then prepared her family’s traditional peas and rice dish and the vegetables as side dishes. As she began to feel at ease because everything was going well, she then remembered she had to also prepare the meatballs by using the ground beef she had bought. As the food cooked Brittany decided to set up the dinner table with utensils for when everyone arrived. As the guest began to arrive, Brittany placed the wonderful meals she had prepared on the table. Fifteen minutes later, everyone was there and all the food had been finished cooking, so they said a prayer and then began to eat. And as soon as Brittany and her family and friends began to eat the table collapsed and everyone just sat quietly and suddenly her great grandmother began to laugh loudly and everyone else followed after. And all the food Brittany had prepared was still sitting perfectly on the table. This turned out to be the best thanksgiving ever for her and everyone else. Brittany and her family and friends still laugh about it till this day.
Subjective:
It was my first thanksgiving in my new apartment I knew I would have to make a list of what I was cooking for my friends and Family. I then got into my car and drove to the supermarket, which was not too far from my house. As soon as I arrived to the supermarket I noticed there was not any parking space available to park my car. I waited a few minutes until a parking spot became available and then I parked my car. As I approached the entrance of the supermarket I noticed that there was chaos and the cashier lines were extremely long. So I immediately started to walk towards the aisle were the ham and turkey were located and when I got to the turkey section there were not anymore turkeys left. So I began to get nervous because I thought to myself “what was thanksgiving without the traditional turkey?” I then grabbed cranberry sauce, potatoes, beans, broccoli, ground beef, desert cakes and cookies, cheese, pork, apple cider and threw them in the shopping cart and walked with a fast pace towards the cashier line. I paid for my groceries and then I exited the supermarket and as I started to walk towards my car I realized I did not remember where I was parked. So I then began to walk through every lot until I finally found my car and I got inside and drove off. I then decided to drive a few blocks further to find a supermarket which would have turkeys left, but after going to three different supermarkets I decided to quit looking. But as I was driving back home I passed a new supermarket which had opened a week ago and outside of the market I read a sign that said “Turkey’s available for purchase.” I quickly found a parking spot and then ran into the supermarket and bought my turkey, and then I left to go home. As soon as I got home, I began to prepare the ham and turkey so that they could start cooking in the oven. I then began to grate cheese and mix sauces to put on my macaroni which I had planned to bake. Soon after I began to prepare my mother’s homemade stuffing while my turkey, ham and macaroni baked in the oven. I also cooked my family’s traditional peas and rice dish and I made a few vegetable dishes on the side. As I began to feel at ease because everything was going as planned, I remembered I had forgotten to make the meatballs, so I took the ground beef out the refrigerator and started to cook it. As the food cooked, I began to set up the table with the utensils for when everyone would arrive. As the guests began to arrive, I started to place the wonderful meals I had prepared on the dinner table. Fifteen minutes later, everyone had arrived and all the food had been finished cooking, so we said a prayer and then we began to eat. As soon as we took out first bites the whole thanksgiving table collapsed and there was an awkward silence, then my great grandmother began to laugh loudly and so did everyone else at the table. But to my surprise the food was still sitting perfectly on the table waiting to be eaten. It turned out to be the best thanksgiving ever because we still laugh about till this day.
