[Company address]

To. Whom It May Concern,

My name is Hyunjee Koo, and I am a student attending Binghamton University. Currently, I am a Senior majoring in Graphic Design with anticipated graduation date of Winter 2010. I am very interested in joining your company and getting an internship position as a graphic designer. It would be so rewarding to participate in an experience with such an outstanding group of designers.

All of my life I have had a passion for the Graphic Design. I am a well-organized individual and a responsible team player who works well with diverse cultures at all levels. I have created several fully functional graphic works from start to finish. I have experience in digital printing using CAD Studio, and redesign and redrawing using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indeign programs at Textile Design Company called In Vogue Studio LTD. Also, experienced for making designed menus and company cards for various businesses. I have skills in many areas within the digital media arts discipline. I am very diverse and can adapt to any atmosphere.

If it is at all possible, I would like to set up an interview so we may discuss open positions and evaluate my portfolio. Thank you for your consideration. I appreciate your time in reviewing my qualifications and look forward to speaking with you at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Hyunjee Koo

  1. I like how short and simple your cover letter is. You explained why you are a good candidate for this internship briefly and it takes only a minute to read it. It is pretty clear. The best part is you avoided unnecessary information.

  2. Hey Hyunjee,
I like your letter but have several suggestions.

If you know the name of an internship the company offers, I think you should include it (though I realize you may not and may just be inquiring about a position in general).

Also, I'm not sure if you include the programs you know how to use in your resume, so if you do you may want to take out that sentence and instead put one in that briefly explains a project you did using one or more of those programs. If the programs aren't on your resume, I think it's great that you put them in your cover letter.

In my opinion, you should list the areas within the digital media arts discipline that you are skilled in rather than just saying you have skills.

Aside from that, I really like your cover letter and you seem genuinely interested in the company you are applying for.

  3. I agree with cem. I was a special events manager at circuit city for sometime and when people would apply I would only look for the people that got to the point, no filler. This is what your cover letter does. Very good job Hyunjee!

  5. It looks good! I agree with a lot of the things Aleksandra pointed out. I would just say to check over your grammar. Otherwise, great job!

  6. I found two typos that you might want to fix: In the first paragraph you should say "All my life I have had a passion for graphic design" rather than THE graphic design. And instead of saying "Also, experienced for making designed menus and company cards for various businesses," you could say "I have experience in designing menus and company cards." Your cover letter is very impressive though!
